Narratively, though, the introduction of an assassination attempt also feels a little desperate and, potentially, like a bad omen for anyone waiting to witness the fall of Frank Underwood. ![]() The way the incident is initially telegraphed, with Claire put on lockdown by the Secret Service in a way that suggests Frank is again attempting to assert his dominance, works quite effectively. It immediately adds a sense of urgency and danger to this initially dull episode. The effect is a little like bringing a gun to a chess match. ![]() ![]() Just when this episode threatens to get bogged down in political strategy - Claire and Frank’s continued quid pro quo, the execution of Operation Intimidate Russian President Petrov - Frank Underwood gets shot.
